Mommy Moments and Cooking Used in the Same Sentence?

Hi! My name is Celena Tindall. I go by Cee – it’s so much easier to remember. I am honored and excited to be blogging on Family Foodies. Being a mom for 27 years, I hope to entertain you with some of my ‘mommy moments’ in cooking.
I was raised ‘country’. When I say country, we lived so rural in the Montana forest that they had to shoot food to us from a cannon! Ok, that’s not true, but living there, as a teenager, it sure felt like it. We grew gardens and preserved our own food for the long winters.
Growing up, I learned to can, jam, mash, freeze, pickle and jelly anything we grew. I literally learned how to cook on a wood cook stove. It was the only source of heat our 90 year old Montana farm house had, which meant I had lots of opportunities to practice my culinary skills in the winter.
I was plucked from rural Montana when I was 18 and plunked down in Las Vegas Nevada! Imagine my delight that I didn’t have to collect eggs every day! They came nice and clean in the egg cartons from the store, any time I wanted them! Even though this country girl has been liberated from the kitchen I developed a deep love of cooking from all the hours spent ‘putting up’ food with my gram and mom.
Yes, I use all of the modern day conveniences I’ve been blessed with, and, I cook from scratch as often as I can. Of all the kitchen amenities, I love my gas stove the best. It’s so much easier to control the heat on a gas stove than a wood burning stove.
Old cook books are an obsession of mine, too. One of my favorites is from my great grandmother that was written in the 1890’s. I hope to share some of the exciting recipes with you as I visit with you here on Family Foodies.
