I have a confession to make. I bake doggy cookies for my dog. Yes it’s true. Dogs are people too, right? Last weekend my husband took my daughter to see the new Fast and Furious movie for a father/daughter bonding time. I baked doggy cookies to bond with our pit bull. His Noah’s Ark treat container was getting low on goodies. I swear, he KNOWS when I’m baking for him! He gets so excited.

Here is a nutritious doggy cookie recipe that I developed from several I’ve tried over the years. It’s fun to make with little ones too. It’s so simple and uses ingredients you’re likely to have at home.
Cheese & Garlic Dog Cookies
- 1 cup wheat flour (or regular if you don’t have wheat)
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated and room temperature
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon butter or oil, softened
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 bouillon cube (optional)
- 1 egg
Cream cheese, egg, bouillon (optional) and butter or oil, add garlic and flour. Add enough milk to form a dry ball of dough. Don’t get it too soft. Chill for 30 minutes. Roll onto board and cut into shapes of your choosing (I use iceream cone and heart shapes). Bake at 375 for 15 minutes. Then flip over and bake another 15 minutes till hard and light brown. Store in covered container up to 1 week.
Bon-a-Puppy!
