
Chef Ann and others are a part a team efforts to present boot camps for lunch ladies. This boot camp teaches how to cook lunch for school kids from scratch. Chef Ann the self-proclaimed “Renegade Lunch Lady” blogs about the boot camp she participated in. Chef Ann offers some tools and one of them is a booklet “What You Need to Know About School Lunch“.
“We used to cook this way a long time ago, and I think it’s great,” Marlene Camdelaria, a Denver high-school cafeteria manager, told the AP. “I have no idea why we went to all the processed stuff. This is so much better.”
Isn’t it great to know that such attention is being paid to the food our children will be eating in school? First Lady, Michelle Obama says, “The last thing parents need is to see the progress they’re making at home lost during the school day.”
Michelle Obama wants Chefs to Adopt a School
First Lady Michelle Obama is spearheading new programs to battle childhood obesity, and among them is “Chefs Move to Schools“, an initiative where top-notch chefs “adopt” a local school and “become healthy food educators,” helping students, staff and families to take on healthier eating habits.
Sounds like school cafeteria food is getting healthier and yummier!
