This is fast, fun and frugal holiday activity for you and the kids – and it creates a great gift for friends and family.
In a big bowl sift/mix together:
- 10 cups dry milk powder
- 4 3/4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
- 1 3/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 3/4 cups powdered non-dairy creamer
Makes 15 cups of mix which makes about 30 mug servings of Hot Cocoa.
Portion it out into airtight containers and let the kids decorate them.
You could portion just enough mix for one mug in a small plastic baggie and stuff that into a gift mug. Pop a bow on top and you’ve got a great quickie gift for co-workers, bus drivers, teachers, etc.
Be sure to provide these instructions with your gift…
To Make Hot Cocoa: Use 1/2 cup of mix with one cup of hot water.

Yummy! I love hot chocolate. I usually go through a bunch of it during the winter months here in Michigan. This year however, we haven’t had any snow or really cold weather yet so I haven’t pulled it out yet. There’s just something about a nice hot cup of cocoa when it’s freezing cold outside with snow falling. I think I will have to give this a try – I’ve never made my own cocoa before!
The confectioners sugar is the secret ingredient here! I have never had hot cocoa with anything but real sugar. I will give this a try, and soon!
