Monday night my husband J C and I went with a group to see the Detroit Tigers play the Texas Rangers. We ate pizza at Papali’s Pizza Downtown Detroit. We ordered the spinach and mushroom pizza. The mozzarella was the best ever! Along with that we had a Greek salad made with spinach. It was so delicious! After we got nice and full we walked to Comerica Park.
Immediately upon arrival, the smells that memories are made of began to get my attention. One of the fun things about going to a baseball game is eating. Hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, soda pop or soft drinks, ice cream, frozen lemonade, and pretzels. The list could go on and on. How can we still have fun and eat less junk food?
If you are going to eat a hot dog please let it be from real meat like Hebrew National. It is made with a very strict process that uses only premium cuts of kosher beef. Regular hot dogs are made from meat by-products.
What Does “by-products” Mean?
It means “Whatever parts and pieces they can grind up, they put it in there.” There is no animal called “by-product” so I recommend staying away from them. Read the labels of the chicken hotdogs and turkey hotdogs because many have added “animal by-products”.
Popcorn is high is fiber! Watch that added salt and fake butter.
There is always a debate about artificially sweetened drinks. I personally seldom drink sodas but when I do I drink diet. There is so much sugar in sodas that it is crazy! If an adult a can of Coke (45 grams of sugar) and a cotton candy (56 grams of sugar) that would equal to 101 grams of sugar!
How Much Sugar Should We Take In?
The limit daily is calculated like this: In a diet composed of 2,000 daily calories, that would amount to about 200 calories (from sugar), or 50 grams of sugar.
So you see 101 grams is way over 50 grams. The problem with too much sugar is that your body uses some for energy then stores the over abundance as fat. The other problem is processed sugar can harm the function of the pancreas and cause diabetes.
So whether its Little League, the family reunion baseball game or a Major League Baseball , it is alright to splurge on one thing just don’t overdo it!
“Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks, I don’t care if I ever get back…”
